A wedding florist’s job is to know which flowers are in season at which time of year. While it is sometimes possible to get flowers outside of their growing season, they usually don’t look as good and aren’t in great shape. This is why it is worth it to plan your wedding flowers based off the season you’re getting married in. Winter

Because of the cold winters we experience in Utah, we have to get flowers from the wholesaler where they are shipped in from warmer parts of the world. These flowers are flowers that are produced year round such as roses, hydrangeas, and ranunculus. But these flowers are not local, and because of this the quality is not as good. As winter comes to an end and the temperature gets warmer the spring flowers start to bloom. This can be earlier or later depending on the year, and this is when the real fun begins.

Spring

Some of the flowers that bloom in the spring include tulips, daffodils, anemones, ranunculus, sweet pea, lilac, poppies, and peonies. These flowers are all stunning, and are in their prime in the spring months. 

Summer

In my opinion, summer is the best time of year for flowers! Some of the flowers in season during the summer months include zinnias, cosmos, snapdragons, yarrow, lisianthus, roses, rudbeckia, Queen Anne’s Lace, delphinium, feverfew, scabiosa, and many more!

Fall

Flowers in season during the fall are often a continuation of the summer flowers. Dahlias, celosia, garden roses, amaranthus, sunflowers, cosmos, and gomphrena are some of the flowers you’ll be seeing in the fall.

Seasonal Wedding Flowers

If flowers are important to you, consider using only seasonal flowers at your wedding! And if you have a particular flower that you love, consider getting married in the season that flower is in bloom. Seasonal flowers are impactful and vibrant in a way that non-seasonal flowers can hardly compete with! Another huge benefit of seasonal flowers is that they are local!
